Muslims in Thopur assaulted on Police

A tense situation was emerged in THOPUR town following an incident between police and Muslim people on 07.11.2015. People alleged that police has assaulted three personals when they were caught riding a motorbike without helmets and relevant documents. Situation was controlled with the involvement of PM ABDUL MAHAROOF and several key figures in the area for a discussion with the people. Following requests were made by the people and police agreed over them:
Allow ride motorbikes without helmets on JUMMA days.
Transfer the 04 policemen who involved in so called assault on a Muslim.
Release the motorbike which police has arrested while victims of so called assault were riding.
Delete all photos captured during the situation.

Garbage consumed elephant died

A dead body of an elephant found at Welweriyakulam Tank reservoir on 06.11.2015. Wild Life officials  inspected the dead body of the elephant and found that the cause for the death is consumption of garbage.

NGOs ready for disasters

UN officials held a meeting for NAFSO, Sewa Lanka, Birendina, Muslim aid and World Vision NGOs at Trincomalee GA office on 06.11.2015. There, there were several discussions on disaster management plans for possible flood situation during the coming weeks in Trincomalee district.

A couple stolen a laptop

A laptop worth of Rs.140,000 was stolen from the Singer showroom at Trincomalee-Anuradhapura junction branch on 05.11.2015. Show room owner has made a complaint that an unknown couple who hanged-around are the suspects. Uppuweli police conducts investigations.

A clash among students

A clash among the students  (11 & 12 grades) of Vipulananda Vidyalaya-Trincomalee, was emerged on 06.11.2015 and Uppuweli police had to involve to settle the situation. A dispute over a love affair was caused for the clash and an injured student was admitted to Trincomalee hospital.

Human Elephant Conflict In Trincomalee district

The electric fence which was constructed in Kanthale,mahawelipura village, was destroyed by the elephants on 03.11.2015. This fence was constructed by Manahara Lanka co. with an expenditure of 4 lakhs rupees. A meeting is organized at Mahawelipura temple to educate the people on how to deal with wild elephants. Meanwhile, wild elephants have damaged the house and destroyed 20 coconut plants of Mrs. Rajeshwari in Shanthipuram, Mahadiwulwewa on 04.11.2015

K. Nageshwaran explains BBC on Sampoor

EPC provincial councilor Mr, K Nageshwaran had a discussion with a BBC journalist over the telephone on 28 May 2015 and explained that Tamil people in Sampoor received a good news to get ready to re settle in their lands in Sampoor. People have their clear deeds on their lands and they are going to resettle there with the proper provisions of low. Further, he said that there is no any deforestation in sampoor, as there in Wilpaththu.  

Peaceful protests at Bharathipuram

A protest at Nilaweli Kileshwara School

A protest was conducted by 520 of  Students and teachers of Nilaweli Kileshwara school today. Protest was started at 8 am and finished at 9 am. They displayed banners against the rape of 18 years old girl in Punkuduthive.

Hunger strike at IDP centers

A hunger strike was started yesterday (18) at Kiliweddi IDP center, requesting immediate resettlement in Sampoor. People from Mananchena, Kiliweddi and Pattithidal ateended in the hunger strike. Fr. Prabakaran of st. Nikolas church stated that the court case to be taken to Trincomalee court. The strike was continued today and to be continued tomorrow.

Police arrests three for fishing net theft

A fishing net of a fisherman from Chilaw, was stolen by a gang of three. While they are returning after the theft, their three wheeler has been broken down and police found them suspected. Kuchchaweli police arrested and reported that they have threw the net after they seen police. Suspects were imprisoned for 14 days by Kuchchaweli magistrate.

A youth hangs himself

A 19 years old youth of Chinabay, hanged himself at 2.30 pm yesterday (17). there had been a problem on his love affair and it has caused for the suicide.

Police arrested Ganja

Uppuweli police arrested two persons with Ganja at Seaload hotel,Soliadi on 27th Feb 2015. R.Muriga and winayagamurthi who are residing in Soliadi and Anandapuri were arrested.

Indian fishermen arrested

43 Indian fishermen with 5 Trawlers were arrested by Navy for the charge of unauthorized entrance in to Sri Lankan water on 27th Feb 2015. They were forwarded to TCO court on 28th.

An assault on a couple

An unidentified gang has assaulted a couple at 1145 pm on 27th Feb 2015 in Peeliadi, Kanniya. Anizta Chandrasiri (21) and Chandrasri (20) are the victims. They were admitted to TCO hospital and TCO police conducts investigations.

Muthur-Colombo CTB bus was turned round at Palugaswanguwa, Habarana at 4 PM AM on 24 Feb 2015. There had been around 20 passengers when it met with the accident. No serious injuries.

POLICE RECOVERED ARMS FROM KATTAPARICHCHAN

A Special police team from Batticaloa recovered an arms cache at the residence of PRABHAKARAN VIJITHA, Ammanagar, Kattaparichchan on 22 Feb 2015. Followings are the items recovered:
7.5 kg Claymore – 01, 7.5kg Pressure mines – 19 with 01 charger, C4 Explosives 100 g, Electric detonators – 07, Pistol rounds – 197. Tomba bombs – 05, T 56 Ammo – 1069, T 56 Mag – 13, H/G – 02, Artillery charger – 03, LTTE flags – 01, Shot gun ammo – 07, Detonator wire – 1.5m.

Two protest were cancelled

Scheduled protest of Missing persons association organized in front of governor's office on 23 Feb 2015 was postponed due to the arrangements made for the govt's commission on Reconciliation from 27 Feb at GA's office, Trincomalee. The protest of IDPs of Sampoor is also postponed due to the promise made by Prime minister to TNA MPs on giving a solution within a 2 weeks of a time. They had planned to protest requesting quick resettlement as it was promised before the election.

A protest in Karamaleiuththu

A hunger strike was started by Muslim people in Wellamanal and suburb areas infront of Karamaleiuththu mosque at 0900 am on 22 Feb 2015. They requested to stop harassment of people by tri forces, withdraw SLAF at Marble beach and Karamaleiuththu to give the lands to people, give back the lands and road of Karamaleiuththu mosque. This is lead by PS member BAZEER.

Rail accident at Kanthale

A tractor met with an accident by crashing a train into the tractor at 10.30am on 22 Feb 2015. The rail gate of Raja-ela had not been closed when the train comes. Tractor Was heavily damaged. Kanthale police conducts investigations.

Farmers' protest in Kanthale

Farmers in Kanthale area conducted a protest requesting a minimum of Rs.20,000 compensation for the destroyed cultivated lands due to the flood. They conducted this protest on 20th Feb 2015 in front of DS office Kanthale. This was led by JVP and it's affiliated farmers' associations. ASP Kanthale came to the place of the protest and promised to discuss the matter with DS. Assistant DS Mss.Bandara menike received  a memorandum which the farmers given.

Requesting compensation for the farmers in Kanthale

JVP conducts meetings for farmers associations to request at least a Rs.20,000 of a compensation per an acre of destroyed cultivations due to flood. They collect Rs.100 each for propaganda and a protest is scheduled to be held in front of AG office Kanthale on 20 February 2015.

Manpower meeting at Habarana

A meeting  of Manpower workers is organized at Habarana navodya School on 2015.02.17. They have conducted a protest in front of Fort railway station requesting to permanent their hobs. Since, they have not been  permanent they have planned to have an another protest in front of headquarter of Ceylon Electricity board, Colombo.

Army soldier was arrested with Ganja at Agbopura

An Army soldier who was attached to 222 Brigade Army camp was arrested by Agbopura police at 08.30 pm on 2015.02.12 at 84th Mile Post while he is transporting 20 packets of Ganja. He was arrested on an information received from a person and Agbopura police conducts further investigations.

A christian Special pray at 3rd Mile post

A special christian pray is organized to be held on 14 and 15 February 2015 at Anandapura ground, 3rd Mile post. This pray is named as " Pray to change sadness in to the happiness". This will be conducted by Fr. Gnanam Amburex and Fr. Johel.

Fishermen protest against fishing by outsiders.

Fishermen of Trincomalee district conducted a protest in front of Kuchchaweli Pradeshiya Sabha Yesterday (12). This was organized against out side fishermen who are coming from Puththalam, Chilaw and other areas. Around 300 members of 14 fishermen societies were attended in the protest. Initially AGA was failed to give a solution for the issue and protesters blocked Kuchchaweli road. Protesters dispersed after the Assistant Director of ministry of fisheries Mr. Palitha Samarathunga promised not to allow outside fishermen to fish in Trincomalee sea area. But  as it is reported to We Trincomalee team, already 9 boats have reached from puththalam, Chilaw and other areas to Padukankattu, Salapayaru and Pulmudai areas.  

Governor visits Sampoor

New Governor for Eastern province Mr. Austin Fernando visited Sampoor area on 8 February 2015. The visit was to find a workable solution for the resettlement of the people in IDP centres. He discussed with the people there and promised to give a solution immediately. During the visit he visited Kiliweddi and Kattaparichchan IDP centres.  

Illegal Timber Cutters were arrested by Army

Four Illegal timber cutters were arrested by the soldiers of 6th Vijayabahu Infantry regiment army camp beside the Periyakulam Lagoon on 7th February 2015. A Chain saw, 5 petrol litres were arrested with them. Suspects were handed over to Nilaweli police and investigations are conducted.
